Midtown Streets and Parks

Houston, Texas

With the establishment of a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ), Midtown Houston has been revitalized by a wave of upscale townhome, multi-family, and mixed-use developments. To build on this momentum and attract residential and commercial growth, IDS began a comprehensive redesign aimed at modernizing the district’s infrastructure.

Our work involved a complete overhaul of several streets and underground utilities, some of which were over 50 years old. In addition, IDS worked on several parks, as well as created a GIS Data Collection App to assist with sidewalk assessments. The redesign focused on enhancing the pedestrian experience, integration of Midtown Redevelopment Authority’s signage and lighting standards, and strengthening Midtown’s transit connectivity.

Projects included:

  • Alabama Street
  • Bagby and McGowen
  • Baldwin ark Street
  • Construction Management for Main Street Enhancements
  • Construction Management for Midtown Park
  • Gray Street
  • Holman Street
  • Parker District Street

Key Project Features:

  • Widening of the sidewalk and the inclusion of ADA-compliant ramps
  • Improved access to multiple bus routes and the METRO Rail Red Line
  • Coordination of underground utility reconstruction
  • IDS received the Silver American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Design Award in the Special Projects category for the Holman Street Improvements project
