UTMB Elevated Storage Tank Rehabilitation

City of Galveston – Galveston, Texas

This project involved performing a preliminary evaluation to determine the condition of this tank as well as an evaluation including considerations of the structural condition of the tank. In addition, the condition of the tank coating was evaluated along with tank appurtenances for adequacy including pipe inflow, overflow, and vents. A report including condition analysis, recommendations, and a preliminary cost estimate was furnished to document the results of the evaluation.

Following the preliminary evaluation, IDS prepared detailed plans and specifications to define the specifics of necessary tank repairs. IDS assisted the City in preparation of bid documents, bid document distribution, hosting the pre-bid meeting, preparing contract addenda, tabulating bids, and providing recommendations for the project award. IDS also provided on-site construction observation and coatings inspection services along with contract administration for the rehabilitation of the 1.0-mg elevated storage tank.

This project was located immediately adjacent to a major thoroughfare, therefore, it was essential to design a project that would provide safe traffic control. Specific traffic control requirements for project construction were incorporated in job requirements. The project was ultimately constructed with no adverse impact to local traffic on adjacent streets.
