Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Our GIS department actively gathers geographical data for projects and areas of interest all across the State of Texas. This information is utilized to create a wide variety of exhibits and perform complex analysis for graphical representation. GIS is not just a mapping software, but a tool to query, analyze, and map data in support of the decision-making process. If a database has a spatial component, it can be displayed and analyzed within a GIS system. Utilizing GIS, we perform site selection studies, hydrologic studies, and ownership analyses. We have utilized GIS to create utility and transportation facility inventories; to illustrate sanitary sewer rehabilitation programs; to document floodplain modeling results; and to develop infrastructure maintenance or rehabilitation programs. IDS has created district-wide map books, Geographic Positioning Systems (GPS) applications, and mapping websites for real-time use by our clients.
