Mission and History
To provide our clients excellent engineering solutions within an environment that allows our professionals to practice in a highly satisfying and challenging way.
Innovation has been a core value throughout the history of the firm. In 1979, IDS answered flooding issues in Texas City by developing a levee system that utilized a new screw pump design that allowed marine life to travel through it without injury. In 1986, IDS provided the first practical use of trenchless construction in the River Oaks area of Houston. In 1991, IDS implemented polyurethane and compaction grouting in sewer rehabilitation for a sink hole that developed in Almeda Road. When another sink hole occurred in a different location, the City of Houston called IDS for an emergency response. In 1994, our survey group implemented use of Real Time Kinematics Global Position System (GPS) as well as assisted in development of the software.
In 2000, IDS provided civil engineering services for the Anadarko Petroleum Building which boasts the tallest building between Houston and Dallas and sits on The Woodlands first river-front commercial/retail development. In 2006, IDS delivered the first significant municipal water supply project constructed as a public-private partnership, a 25-mile transmission line and booster station delivered for a guaranteed maximum price on a fixed schedule. In 2010, IDS designed a booster pump station for a utility district inside the City of Houston to address pressure and capacity issues. The pump station design was awarded a gold medal for engineering excellence in 2012 from ACEC-Texas and serves as a model for residential communities to deliver reliable water pressure and foster mutually beneficial partnerships between public entities.
